THE POWER OF PRAISE

Praise is the act of expressing, commending, magnifying or worshipping. As Christians, one of our core essence and responsibility is to praise God. It is the expression of our heartfelt gratitude to God almighty. When we praise, we acknowledge God as our Lord and creator.

There are countless reasons why we should praise God; even the scriptures admonish us to praise him in all seasons for his unending mercies, for his kindness, even for the gift of the air we breathe. He truly deserves all of our praise.

But oftentimes, the challenges of life and our daily struggles denies us the opportunity to praise him. While at other times we might feel God has let us down, or we might think he is too far away from us and does not care about our wellbeing, so we feel he does not deserve our praise.

Below are some of the reasons why we should constantly praise God:

  • Praise eliminates negativity and complaints

Through praise and thanksgiving, we focus more on God and less on the circumstances that surround us. Rather than complaining or focusing on life's negativities, our gaze is set on high, appreciating God for all the good things he has done for us and even the many more He is yet to do. As the psalmist says in Psalms 103:2 "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;" So there's no need to worry or complain, cause our Lord Almighty knows all our cares, and He is ever willing and ready to do exceedingly great things in our lives.

  • Praise open doors of God's blessings

Just like we're admonished in Psalms 100:4 "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." Praise is a way into God's heart. When we praise Him, He is forced to do many more marvellous things in our lives - praise is the doorway into God's heart.

  • Praise makes us humble

To truly praise God, we must first be humble. Our humility proves that we acknowledge God's supremacy over our lives and we're looking up to him to take absolute control and give us breakthroughs. James 4:10 says "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

  • Praise makes our enemies flee

Praise is also an act of faith, when we sing praises the devil gets disappointed that all of his efforts are futile - as such the devil flees. Not only that, our praises move God to act and fight on our behalf as he did for the children of Isreal at the wall of Jericho. Psalms 18:3 says "I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies." When we praise God, we're simply inviting him to fight our battles, it has never been heard that He lost any.

Deciding to praise God and fix our hopes on Christ daily is one of the best decisions we can ever make as Christians. Soon, we will begin to see that the troubles, struggles and worries have all been taken care of. We become immeasurably powerful and unlimited once we begin to acknowledge that God is worthy of our praise and adoration. In the process of worshipping, we also become more like him.

God desires that we praise and worship him wholeheartedly at every point in our lives; in sickness and sound health, when things seem to go in our favour or otherwise - praise God! Praise the Lord Almighty because truly he is worthy of our praise. As you begin to make praise a daily habit, God with not withhold his blessings towards you in Jesus' name!
